Some of you may get the reference but I assure you "Bright Eyes", as in the case of my son Jean-luc has nothing to do with the movie "Planet of the Apes." (Its what Dr. Zera called Charlton Heston for those that don't know)
Jean-luc, named after the famed Captain of a certain space vessel that shall remain nameless, is my middle child. He is energy incarnate, literally bouncing off the walls most days. That's not to say he's ADD or anything, just high energy. When I first met him 7 years ago, I was struck by how much his eyes seemed to watch everything. They were just the brightest part of his face, hence the little nickname. Today I have to really look at him to find that same sweet brightness, I guess as you age some of the more pronounced qualities of your face start to blend in.
Jean-luc is a great kid and I know that one day he'll do some amazing things. The only real concern I have is that I want to make sure I encourage him enough, make him challenge his own abilities so that he can become a stronger, better man.
Lukey as we call him, is the one you'll see fidgeting in church. (not that I go very often...I'll discuss that later)He's just now starting to get into that phase where he eats everything in sight. The challenge is buying enough good food, fruits and vegetables so that he's eating healthy. Not always an easy task. Whole foods, which is a good store, is expensive. I thought organic food would be cheaper since they didn't have to spend money on pesticides and such.
